Getting Creative with AI is a hands-on course that teaches students how to use today's most exciting AI tools to make real, shareable creative work — original songs, eye-catching visuals, stories, videos, and even video games. Students will learn how AI actually works, then immediately apply that knowledge using platforms like Suno AI, Canva AI, and Microsoft Copilot to bring their wildest ideas to life. A major focus is prompt engineering — the skill of writing clear, specific instructions that get AI to produce exactly what you envision. Whether you're an aspiring musician, storyteller, artist, or game designer, this course shows you how to use AI as a creative superpower, not a shortcut.
What Is This Course? Getting Creative with AI is a project-driven course where students stop wondering what AI can do and start using it to make things. Each session is built around real creative output — actual songs, visuals, stories, and more — using free and accessible AI platforms that students can continue using long after the course ends. The goal isn't just familiarity with AI; it's fluency. Students leave knowing how to direct these tools with intention and skill.
Prompt Engineering: The Core Skill The single most important skill in this course is prompt engineering — the art of writing instructions that guide AI toward exactly the result you want. Students learn why a vague prompt produces a generic result, and how adding specificity, tone, genre, style, and context transforms the output entirely. This skill applies across every tool covered in the course and is increasingly valuable in the real world, where prompt writing is becoming a genuine professional competency.
Music, Visuals, Stories, and Video Using Suno AI, students compose original songs across genres — experimenting with themes ranging from courage and fantasy to the delightfully absurd. With Canva AI, they generate images and videos from creative prompts (think detective ducks, disco-dancing Care Bears, and candy-colored worlds), then use those assets to build graphics, flyers, and presentations. AI writing tools help students develop story concepts, flesh out characters, and generate plot structures. And through Microsoft Copilot, students get hands-on experience with one of the most widely used AI assistants available today.
Video Game Design and Beyond Students also explore how AI can assist in video game creation — generating game assets, brainstorming level concepts, and customizing game elements without needing advanced coding skills. This section opens students' eyes to how AI is reshaping an entire industry and gives them a taste of what's possible when creativity meets generative technology.
Collaborative and Combinatory Creativity One of the most exciting parts of this course is discovering how AI tools work together. Students experiment with combining outputs from different platforms — a Suno-generated song paired with a Canva-produced visual, for example — to create something neither tool could produce alone. Collaborative projects, including building shared playlists and group creative challenges, reinforce the idea that AI doesn't replace human creativity; it amplifies it. Students leave with a portfolio of original work and the confidence to keep creating.
