Outcomes, not lecture notes.
First programs: Set up Python and run programs with variables and data types
Conditionals: Direct what your program does with if, elif and else
Loops: Automate a repetitive task with for and while loops
Functions: Write reusable functions that are easy to read and test
Lists and dictionaries: Store and organize data in lists, dictionaries and tuples
Debugging: Find and fix errors when your code breaks
Meet Lloyd.

Lloyd
Lloyd is an AI-native entrepreneur who specializes in automating businesses and processes with agentic workflows. His tech career started as "The YouTube Ads Guy," and when the early releases of ChatGPT and other LLMs emerged he saw AI as the most transformative technology of our lifetimes - and set about learning everything he could about it. Nowadays he's happy to check in between classes on the AI agents running his businesses while he shows Varsity Tutors students how they can do the same.
You keep doing the same tedious task by hand, and suspect a few lines of code could do it for you. In Python for Beginners, you'll write and run real code in a small group with instructor Lloyd Dodgen, practicing conditionals, loops, functions and data structures like lists and dictionaries. You'll finish able to write a short program that uses loops to automate a repetitive task, and debug it when it breaks. Built for adults who are new to coding or need a refresher; no experience needed.
Getting Started with Python Learn how Python actually works, set up your environment, and write and run your first programs using core syntax, variables, and data types.
Making Decisions with Conditionals Direct how your programs run with if, elif, and else, and combine conditions to handle real-world logic.
Repeating Work with Loops Use for and while loops to automate repetitive tasks and process data one item at a time.
Writing Functions Build and use functions to write clean, reusable, efficient code that's easy to read and test.
Working with Data Structures Store and organize information with Python's essential data structures, including lists, dictionaries, and tuples.
Debugging and Real-World Python Troubleshoot errors with confidence, approach new problems with a structured mindset, and see how Python is used across real professional settings.
