ABOUT THIS CLASS

If you work alongside Spanish-speaking colleagues or clients — or want to — Spanish for Work gives you the practical language skills to show up professionally and confidently from day one. Built for adults with some basic Spanish exposure but limited real-world speaking experience, this six-week course zeroes in on exactly what you need in a professional setting: introductions, scheduling, requests, directions, and workplace small talk. Every session is built around interactive role-play and real scenarios so you're not just memorizing vocabulary — you're actually using it. By the end, you'll have the confidence and cultural fluency to hold your own in professional conversations with Spanish-speaking colleagues and clients.

SYLLABUS

Who This Course Is For

Spanish for Work (Introduction: L1) is built for working adults who already have a foothold in basic Spanish — maybe you studied it briefly, picked up a few phrases, or can follow a simple conversation — but haven't yet bridged the gap into real professional use. If you've ever wished you could communicate more effectively with a Spanish-speaking coworker, client, or partner, this course gives you exactly the tools to do that. No fluency required, just a willingness to practice and engage.

What You'll Actually Work On

Every topic in this course was chosen because it comes up constantly in professional environments. You'll start with the fundamentals of workplace introductions and professional small talk — how to present yourself, ask thoughtful questions, and build rapport. From there, the course moves into the mechanics of scheduling and time management in Spanish, so you can coordinate meetings, set deadlines, and confirm appointments without confusion. You'll also practice giving and receiving directions in workplace contexts, and learn the language of making and responding to requests — politely, clearly, and appropriately.

Culture Is Part of the Curriculum

Language doesn't exist in a vacuum, and neither does professional communication. A dedicated thread of the course covers cultural norms and business etiquette across Spanish-speaking countries — how to address colleagues formally versus informally, what to expect in professional social interactions, and how cultural context shapes communication styles. Understanding these nuances isn't a bonus; it's what separates someone who can speak the words from someone who can actually build relationships.

How Sessions Are Structured

This isn't a lecture course. Each session is designed around active practice — role-playing real workplace scenarios, participating in group discussions, and working through listening and reading comprehension activities that reflect authentic professional situations. The environment is supportive and low-pressure, which means you'll take risks, make mistakes, and actually improve faster than you would drilling grammar exercises alone.

What You'll Walk Away With

After six weeks, you'll have a working vocabulary for the professional situations you encounter most, a clearer understanding of Spanish business culture, and — most importantly — the confidence to speak up rather than stay silent. Whether you're navigating a bilingual office, expanding into new markets, or simply building stronger connections with Spanish-speaking colleagues, this course gives you a real, practical foundation to build on.
