Outcomes, not lecture notes.
Evaluate limits using direct substitution, limit laws, and analytical techniques — including one-sided limits and limits at infinity
Apply the Intermediate Value Theorem and analyze continuity of functions
Calculate derivatives using the power rule, product rule, quotient rule, and chain rule — including implicit differentiation
Use first and second derivative tests to identify increasing/decreasing intervals, local and global extrema, and concavity
Solve definite and indefinite integrals using u-substitution and apply the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus
Calculate the area between curves using definite integrals
Solve separable differential equations and interpret slope fields
Develop AP exam strategies — manage time, recognize question patterns, and eliminate common errors on multiple-choice and free-response problems
Meet Brian.

Brian
Hundreds of high school students have Brian Ding to thank for their college credits and acceptances. After all, Brian has taught every AP math and computer science class, in addition to serving as an AP computer science reader and grader, and a computer science instructor at Johns Hopkins. In his continued efforts to bring engaging STEM instruction to the masses, Brian even installed an e-Glass enabled teaching studio in his home–which he debuted to rave reviews for Varsity Tutors students and where he continues to help students ace their APs and learn to love math and computer science.
AP Calculus AB Monthly Review is a targeted, exam-focused course designed for high school students who want to sharpen their calculus skills and walk into the AP exam with real confidence. Each month, students work through the core pillars of the AB curriculum — limits, derivatives, integrals, and differential equations — tackling actual AP-style multiple-choice and free-response problems with an expert instructor. This isn't passive review: students actively solve problems, uncover the logic behind each technique, and learn to avoid the specific mistakes that cost points on test day. Whether you're catching up, keeping up, or pushing for a 5, this course gives you the structured practice and strategic guidance to make it happen.
Shore Up Earlier Units AP Calculus AB builds on itself, so a shaky early unit makes every later one harder. We circle back to key concepts from earlier in the year, like limits and continuity or the rules of differentiation, so the units ahead have something solid to build on.
Tackle the Current Unit Whatever unit your class is in right now, from applications of derivatives to integration and differential equations, students get guided practice and clear strategies for the concepts they're seeing in school this month.
Practice AP-Style Questions Work through real AP-style multiple-choice and free-response questions, with and without a calculator, including the setups and justifications graders look for, and learn exactly how AP graders award points.
Preview What's Next Wouldn't we all love a sneak peek at our next challenge before the clock starts ticking and the points start counting? We preview upcoming concepts, like the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus or slope fields, so new units feel familiar instead of intimidating.
