Her innovative approach—characterized by strategic use of digital platforms and interactive assessment techniques—empowers students to excel academically while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. While her primary emphasis is elementary school math, she teaches everything from pre-K number sense to education classes at the university level in her capacity as adjunct professor at BYU-Idaho.

ABOUT THIS CLASS

8th grade math is full of high-stakes concepts — linear equations, functions, the Pythagorean theorem, transformations — and the students who thrive in high school math are the ones who don't just pass these topics but genuinely own them. Building Blocks of 8th Grade Math runs alongside your regular school year as an ongoing reinforcement class, giving you the space to develop real depth and fluency in the foundational skills your teacher had to move past before winter break. This isn't about catching up — it's about the strategic advantage of mastering the material that Algebra II, geometry, and standardized tests will assume you know cold. Driven students use this class to make sure the rational tradeoffs of a packed academic schedule don't quietly chip away at the foundation they're building on.

SYLLABUS

Make the Basics Automatic When a student is still working hard on an earlier skill, like integer operations or solving two-step equations, there's little attention left for the new idea that builds on it. We revisit those foundations until they're automatic, so students' brainpower goes where it's needed most.

Lock In This Year's Learning The school year moves fast, and students are often just on the cusp of getting a topic when the next unit begins. We circle back to key 8th grade concepts from earlier in the year, like exponents and scientific notation or slope, that later units depend on.

Tackle What's in Front of You Whatever unit your class is in right now, from linear equations and functions to systems, transformations, and the Pythagorean theorem, students get guided practice and clear strategies for the kinds of problems they're seeing in school this month.

Preview What's Next Wouldn't we all love a sneak peek at our next challenge before the clock starts ticking and the points start counting? We preview upcoming concepts, like systems of equations or the Pythagorean theorem, so new topics feel familiar instead of intimidating.
