ABOUT THIS CLASS

Italian is one of the world's most beautiful languages — and one of the most accessible for English speakers to begin learning. Introduction to Italian is a welcoming, practical course designed for adult beginners who want to start communicating in Italian from day one. Sessions focus on the vocabulary and grammar you actually need first: greetings and introductions, numbers and dates, ordering food, asking for directions, and navigating everyday conversations with confidence. The instruction is warm, interactive, and structured — moving you from zero to functional with the kind of hands-on practice that makes new vocabulary stick. Whether you're preparing for a trip to Italy, reconnecting with Italian heritage, or simply want to experience the joy of a new language, this is where your journey starts.

SYLLABUS

Italian Sounds and Pronunciation Italian is one of the most accessible languages for English speakers to start speaking, in part because it's spelled the way it sounds. You'll learn its vowels, its double consonants, and the rhythm that makes it so musical.

Greetings and Introductions Say hello, introduce yourself, and start a conversation, along with when to use the formal Lei and the familiar tu.

Numbers, Dates, and Times Count, give a phone number, talk about prices, and tell time, plus the days, months, and dates you need to make plans.

Ordering and Shopping Order food and drinks, ask what something costs, and handle everyday shopping with the vocabulary you'll actually hear in Italy.

Getting Around Ask for and follow directions, talk about places around town, and handle common travel situations with confidence.

Everyday Conversation Talk about your family, your routine, and your interests while building your own sentences with gender, articles, and present-tense verbs.
