“The Admiral Benbow” is mentioned in the following lines: “When a seaman did put up at the Admiral Benbow (as now and then some did, making by the coast road for Bristol) he would look in at him through the curtained door before he entered the parlor; and he was always sure to be as silent as a mouse when any such was present.” Since we are told that the Admiral Benbow is along the coast road that goes to Bristol, it wouldn’t make sense for it to be an island, a ship, an award, or even a person, despite “Admiral Benbow” sounding like a character’s name.
