It means nothing by Adaly - October 2022 Scholarship Essay
Despite the title of my essay, I say that education can mean nothing to me. Education is what makes you feel like you are worthy and amount to something important. It gives you a heads start compared to people who aren't educated. There are things that only educated people can do that others can’t. Then also, we learn in our work that some of the most successful people in the world aren't educated as we think they need to be, they have street smarts that get them ahead of their educated peers. Where the real powerful person is the one who has street smarts and then educated themselves.
Then what does education mean to me, it means everything. Education is what proves to my family members that I can amount to something important, that I can go to college when many of them didn’t. That I can educate myself to such a high degree that I get the proper respect. My father’s side of the family believes that education only makes someone become egoistic, and they aren't completely wrong, but they also believe that a person who gets educated only waste their precious time that they could have used working a minimum wage job.
Education and being successful with my education is something that is so important to me that I can’t really fathom into work the urgency that it causes me. I seek and imagine the future with my bachelors and majors, and what I can do with them. Education is what makes me feel optimistic of the future, and feel like I have a plan.
