Success by Adam - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Depending on how you define “success”, leadership skills may or may not be necessary in be “successful” in college. Looking at college as a challenge that you accept in order to receive a degree, leadership skills aren’t necessary at all. However, if you plan on receiving your degree as well as becoming involved in the campus activities while preparing for future job opportunities, leadership skills are necessary. What you want to do with your life and how far you want to go is the true question if leadership skills are necessary.
Going to class and getting the work done doesn’t take any leadership skills at all. When your main goal is to receive the $60,000 piece of paper and move on, your leadership skills don’t have to be anywhere near good. Though, for this to happen, you still need to be able to put the work in to your class as well as have the grit to go through with your goal. Most people want more in their college careers than this.
To go on to something bigger and better than what you want to become requires leadership skills. These skills start with your college experience. Going to class and getting the work done won’t propel you to the top. You need to be able to take charge and show you can take on large projects. These projects require a leader to make decisions and take on responsibilities. If you want the most out of your college experience, leadership skills are necessary.
