Notable Successful Minority Hispanic Females by Alexandria - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
(I've selected my audience to be a group of Hispanic girls at a girl school or function)
Do you know someone that has impacted your life, or even just from the public eye, causing you to have the inner burning desire to become the best of whom you could possibly be, striving in all excellence in all things? Have you noticed if that person happens to be of a minority ethnicity or descent? I have come today as an encouragement and motivation for you to consider striving for excellence in all that you do. My name is Alexandria Denham, I have had an intensive Art Study Focus throughout my schooling, with a couple of other interests. I am one-quarter Hispanic, my father's mother is from Mexico Cuidad, Mexico (Mexico City) and her maiden name is Ruiz de Chavez. My younger brother and I have grown up in an American-Mexican household, and my paternal grandmother has had a tremendous impact on who I am today; I am her only granddaughter. She wanted to be a Pharmacist, but instead she moved far away from her entire family to the United States of America when upon marrying my grandfather when she was just 19 years of age. My grandmother has always encouraged me to go for my dreams, to pursue my passions and interests, to not turn back or give-in for fear of failure for lack of trying. Even though my grandma did not pursue her career goal, instead she devoted her life to raising six children and being a devoted, loving wife and mother for her family; always giving 150% of herself to every one of her loved ones, and she still continues doing so at 82 years of age.
I admire my grandmother and her encouragement she gives me. I have been accepted to Missouri State University in Springfield MO as an incoming Freshman Fall 2017 for an Electronic Arts degree in Animation with a minor in Computer Programming. I am confident due to the teachings I've received, from my parents and grandparents, to press forward for your passion wholeheartedly; not to allow doubt to be an obstacle to steer you away from striving for your goal, nor be afraid to experience failure along the way. The road may not be an easy one, but it is worth all the effort, strategies and investment in order to pursue your greatest passion(s). I am a fourth generation artist on my mother's side, and a first generation, to attend college. Take a moment to reflect upon whom has made an impacting impression on you from their achievement(s) in their life. Might that be a Hispanic female? There are numerous Hispanic females that come to mind, to name a few: Frida Kahlo a Mexican female artist from Mexico City, Mexico throughout the thirties and forties was internationally known for her infamous self-portraits, known as a surrealist; Sonia Sotomayor of Puerto Rican descent became the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in U.S. history, whom graduated from Princeton as summa cum laude in 1975; and Laura Esquivel also a Mexican from Mexico City, Mexico whom is a well known author, screenwriter, educator, and journalist -- what a wide range of impact she has had on the Hispanic community and other. Having reviewed the historical achievements these women have made in history for Hispanics and Americans alike is truly inspirational to me for continuing to instill and cultivate the fire of inspiration to all female Hispanics/Latinas.
I hope that each of you will find inspiration, motivation, encouragement and more by the goals achieved by these women I have mentioned and many more notable, successful Hispanic females. Will the next generation of Hispanic females be reading of my accomplishments in years to come, of the unique, individual journey of experiences that I will endure over the next several years, as I reach my career goals? I truly, sincerely hope so, for the mere fact of inspiration to all the young Hispanic girls across the world. Life, goals and success is what you make of it; its how you approach the passion burning inside of you that helps fuel the fire for your journey for success that makes all the difference. My career goals are to Animate and Program for both the Gaming and Movie Industries. I desire to learn all levels of appropriate and effective collaboration utilized between both the animation and programming departments of any said successful studio. I hope to be that pivotal, invaluable asset for any studio that I will work for to bridge that gap for lack of communication between the two departments. Discover what your passion is, cultivate and nurture that passion, as I have done from a very young age. I am full of enthusiasm to begin this new chapter in my life to attain my desired degree. We all know that you do not need to come from riches in order to become successful or to reach your life's goals; it takes determination, motivation, and dedication, plus the ability to get back up every time you might encounter a struggle. Take the opportunities before you, if you can't easily find them, locate them or create them, and be the very best that you can be striving for excellence in all that you do to becoming the notable, successful Hispanic female you're capable of becoming.
