Find the evidence, solve the crime! by Alexis - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

Upon applying for college I originally had a goal set in mind to major within the law field, and study law. Through research, while shadowing and doing some of my own googling. I decided to stay within the justice system, but potentially work a little more behind the scenes. I want to major in the applied chemistry major. This allows me to major in chemistry to get the necessary chemistry knowledge, while also taking forensic elective courses to truly find my calling for my career.

I chose this major, because science always enthused me! I always enjoyed my science classes, especially as I got to high school and was introduced into chemistry. I enjoy learning the how of what happens around us everyday. At a very young age I often was watching shows like C.S.I. Miami, and N.C.I.S. I loved these types of shows, and to see the forensics behind these theoretical cases was so interesting and entertaining to me. As well as like most who find interest in the why behind a crime, I was often listening to true crime podcasts. These podcasts, and tv shows built the urge to learn more about the science behind the crime. Through majoring in chemistry, I am aiming to get a forensic career after I complete my college years.

I am going to major in chemistry to be able to obtain a career within the forensic field. I don't know exactly where I am going to end up within the forensic field, but I can't wait to start my journey!
