Doing volunteer and extracurricular activities not only gives you the opportunity to help the community but also gives you the chance to experience different fields so that you get a better idea of what career you want to pursue in the future, it also helps build your college resume.
I am currently in Girl scouts and I have been in Girl scouts for 11 years. We learn about the wilderness and we do arts and crafts, yes we like to have fun but at the same time we give back to our communities, we have volunteered at the Brentwood nursing home before Halloween and we cooked for them, we have also volunteered for a preschool to pick weeds and put down mulch to beautify the school. Apart from that I volunteer at Northside hospital as a receptionist and patient transport/discharge, I have never really thought of working in a hospital but from my volunteer experience there, I can see how many other jobs are needed to make the hospital run efficiently, besides nurses and other medical professionals. It's always good to discover more options in a field. I realize how much one person can make a difference with a little bit of effort and volunteering. Giving back makes you feel good, but volunteering shouldn't be about you it should be about trying to make the community a better place and making other people feel good. the smallest action can make the biggest difference, from helping somebody cross the street to tutoring a friend who needs a little extra help. It shows you care enough to take your time and show your support for them, and hopefully your act of kindness can inspire and rub off on the next person.
Ever since I was 8 I have wanted to be a teacher of some sort, I got to volunteer at a school and see what its like teaching a kindergarten class and I loved every second of it. All of the students looked up to the teacher, I realized that I wanted to be a role model and why not start with the kids. hopefully I can change their lives by inspiring them. Occasionally I tutor my friends that need extra help. I realized that I don't need to change the world, but taking my time to help somebody changes their world. giving back to the community itself is so rewarding. Just keep in mind that one little action can make a difference in someones world, so take every chance you can get.
