Mission: Explore and Experience by Allison - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
Two years in. How am I halfway there already? Two years is all I have left of college before I am thrown into the "real world." That's what everyone keeps calling it anyway. The term is terrifying but exhilarating at the same time and I just don't know if I'm ready to take that leap. I think sometimes I focus too much on perfecting my academics. I might excel through school and come out with a Bachelor's Degree with no problem. But, then what? All I'll have is a piece of paper and no experience to go with it, no idea what comes next.
All the knowledge we gain is of no use if we do not know how to apply it. That is why my goal is to get more out of school than just going to class. I want experience. A taste of what the "real world" is like and where I might fit in it. To explore the horizon and find my path. This year is about learning more than just the material, to really grasp how education translates into a job. I hope to join internships and shadow programs that fit my field of study (Marketing/Management) so that I can learn from those who are already there.
The world of business is so intriguing. So many moving parts, and yet they work together like a well-oiled machine. I want to be a part of that, but not in just any company. My dream is to work for the Atlanta Braves - I'm going big leagues! Sports and business is the perfect pairing for me. I could do marketing, or lead tours, organize events, the list is almost endless and that's what excites me the most. But I can't secure a job in one of the biggest organizations in baseball if I don't have the experience. By dipping my toes into the "real world" while I'm still in school, I might just be able to make that dream come true but I have to take the leap this year. College can open those doors for me and from now on, I intend to step through them.
