My Inspiration to Inspire by Alyssa - January 2017 Scholarship Essay
Ever since I was a young girl, I have always had a heart for serving and helping others. As I grew up, I had the opportunity to see my parents displaying this same desire to serve others throughout our church, and I wanted to be a part of it. For this reason, it was at the age of ten that I began volunteering to serve in the childcare center at my church. I began this journey by volunteering with my mom to help in the first grade classroom on Sunday mornings, and I was immediately filled with joy by their precious personalities and desire to know more about The Lord. Though I loved this opportunity and continued to be a part of this ministry for several years, I had been praying for an opportunity to be a leader of my own class. A few years later, I finally had the opportunity to co-lead a classroom of fifth grade girls during Sunday School at the same church. It was during this year of service that my life was forever changed. My fifth grade girls and I dove into The Word, pursued God, and reached out in the community every Sunday, and it was such a blessing to be leading a group of children who were just as eager to be servants of The Lord as I was. There were times when I was brought to tears by their beautiful hearts, unable to contain my joy as I watched them learn and grow in Christ, and simply inspired by the passion each girl possessed at such a young age.
There truly is no greater joy than encouraging the younger generations and being a part of their spiritual journeys to know Jesus Christ, and I believe everyone should have this opportunity to know The Lord or to help someone find Him. Because of this priceless experience of volunteering I now know that I want to inspire others, bring the community closer to The Lord, and change the world for the rest of my life.
