My Advice to Incoming Freshman by Andre - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

When first arriving at my High School, the school can seem sort of underwhelming and they might think of the school of just a school, where they come in and sit in their chair for six-to-seven hours, then leave. My piece of advice to the incoming freshmen would be to get involved with everything, it will make your high school experience a lot better than if you don’t get involved at all.
I was that kid when I started high school, the shy kid who only talked to and was with the same group of people since my first year of middle school. My Freshmen year I joined the football team and made friends right away. They broke me out of my shell right away, and I became who I am today. Football and all team sports are very beneficial to you during high school, they taught me confidence and leadership, but most importantly, comradery. Those kids who played by my side all four years of high school are some of my best friends and I couldn’t be happier the way I turned out
In addition to team sports, clubs are always so much fun. The best thing about clubs is that there's one for everyone, from football club where you sit around and talk sports to Leo’s club where it is an organized group trying to better the community, clubs are beneficial to your high school experience. I joined Leo’s club for two years and was humbling, helping out everyone from old to young, especially during the holidays, was amazing how grateful people are.
My final message to the incoming freshman would be that high school is what you make of it, you either will make it boring and only look forward to two to three moments in your day, or you can make your whole day so much better, by having good relations with everyone, but also that team sports and clubs will help introduce you to people and will help spread yourself around the school.
