My journey through graduate school at the University of West Georgia has been full of learning and growth, but it has not been without its challenges. As a graduate student in Education, I have faced many academic hurdles that have tested my resilience and determination. One particular experience stands out as both a turning point and a testament to the power of perseverance.
During my second year, I enrolled in a course that was notorious for its rigor: Advanced Educational Theory. I was excited because I knew it would deepen my understanding and enhance my teaching skills. However, from the very first week, I realized this course was unlike any I had taken before. The reading load was immense, with complex theories that required not just comprehension but critical analysis and application. The assignments demanded a level of depth and originality that I had not anticipated.
Initially, I struggled to keep up. The theories were dense, and I found myself reading the same paragraphs multiple times without fully grasping the concepts. The first assignment, a critical essay on a particularly abstract theory, was a wake-up call. I received a grade that was much lower than I had expected, and the feedback, though constructive, highlighted areas where I needed significant improvement. It was disheartening, and I began to doubt my abilities.
