Living Outside of the Status Quo: A Nobel Prize Worthy Characteristic by Anna - December 2018 Scholarship Essay

Receiving the Nobel Prize is a tremendous honor. One must possess outstanding qualities to even be considered for this award, let alone win. Men and women have been awarded the Nobel Prize for many years because of advances in chemistry, economics, literature, peace, physics, and medicine. Many qualifications go into choosing the recipient of the Nobel prize; I believe two of these should be leadership and integrity.
The world needs leaders who step up and make advancements for what they believe in. That is why leadership is an important quality to find in someone receiving the Nobel Prize. There are multiple ways to lead, and winners over the years depict different approaches. Of course, the obvious way to lead is to be an extroverted spokesman for one's cause. He may rally people together, give exciting speeches, and form relationships as he sets a physical example of being a leader. On the other hand, one can lead and not be in the limelight. Leaders like this take various behind the scenes roles. They are usually very driven and organized which are great qualities for a Nobel Prize winner to maintain.
A famous quote "honesty is the best policy" has blanketed the world's view of someone with noteworthy character for years. This explains my choice of integrity as the second quality to possess in order to be eligible for the Nobel Prize. One with integrity ranks high on the list of honorable people, because they tell the truth even when it is ugly. Regardless of how it will effect themselves or those around them, people filled with integrity are always honest because it is the right thing to do. Not only is this commendable, but it is a great characteristic of leadership as well.
To wrap things up,though many people with different strengths are in the running for the Nobel Prize, I believe it should be awarded based on leadership and integrity. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes and can serve by being relational to the masses or through behind the scenes work. Secondly, integrity is one of the highest qualities to possess, and is my next choice of a quality for the Nobel Prize winner. Honest people are trustworthy, and trustworthiness is a depleting quality that deserves to be commended. The Nobel Prize is a very honorable award to win, and those making the decision should be very careful to find noteworthy qualities such as leadership and integrity.
