Solve it using factoring by Aralynn - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my high school years, math was a subject that consistently challenged me. No matter how hard I tried, I often found myself struggling to keep up with the concepts and equations. It was a constant source of frustration and stress, especially as I knew that a solid understanding of math would be crucial for my future studies in Information Technology at Texas Southern University.

One particular semester stood out as especially difficult. I was taking a precalculus class that seemed to be miles ahead of anything I had encountered before. The pace was fast, and the concepts were abstract and complex. Every night, I would spend hours trying to make sense of my notes and the textbook, but I still felt lost. My grades began to slip, and I started to doubt my ability to succeed in the class.

I knew I had to do something different if I wanted to turn things around. The first step I took was to reach out for help. I approached my math teacher after class one day and explained my struggles. She was understanding and offered to help me during her office hours. I started attending these sessions regularly, where we would go over the material in a more personalized setting. This one-on-one attention helped me to grasp the concepts that seemed impossible in a crowded classroom.

In addition to seeking help from my teacher, I also formed a study group with a few classmates who were also finding the class challenging. We met twice a week to work through homework problems together and prepare for upcoming tests. This collaborative environment was incredibly beneficial. We were able to learn from each other, and explaining concepts to my peers helped to reinforce my own understanding.

I also turned to online resources to supplement my learning. There are countless websites and videos dedicated to explaining math concepts in different ways. I found that watching videos on platforms like Khan Academy allowed me to see the material from a different perspective. Sometimes, hearing an explanation from someone else was all it took for a concept to finally click.

Despite these efforts, I still faced moments of frustration and doubt. There were times when I felt like giving up, but I reminded myself of my goals and the importance of perseverance. I developed a routine of setting small, achievable goals for each study session, which helped me to stay motivated and focused. Celebrating these small victories gave me the confidence to tackle larger challenges.

As the semester progressed, I began to see improvement. My grades slowly climbed, and I felt more confident in my abilities. By the end of the semester, I managed to earn a grade that I was proud of. More importantly, I had developed a set of skills and strategies that I could apply to future academic challenges.

This experience taught me the value of persistence and the importance of seeking help when needed. It also showed me that collaboration and utilizing available resources can make a significant difference in overcoming obstacles. As I prepare to enter college as a freshman at Texas Southern University, I am confident that these lessons will serve me well in my studies in Information Technology.

I am aware that college will present its own set of challenges, but I am ready to face them head-on. I know that I have the ability to overcome difficulties, just as I did with my precalculus class. I am excited to continue my education and to apply the problem-solving skills I have developed to my future studies and career.

In conclusion, the challenging experience of struggling with math taught me resilience, the importance of seeking support, and the power of collaboration. These are lessons that I will carry with me as I embark on my college journey and pursue my dreams in the field of Information Technology. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story and hopeful that it will inspire others facing similar challenges.
