Teacher by Asher - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

A teacher that has had a significant impact on my education journey would be my current band teacher, Mr. Homan. The previous music director of bands at Allen East was not particularly skilled at his job. I have always enjoyed making music, but somehow, it started getting a little stale for me. Going into my senior year, we had a replacement teacher start working. Ever since the beginning of the school year, I have had no complaints about him. I admire the teaching style, the respect he gets from the students, and the musicality of him in his position. This means a lot to me personally seeing as I am wanting to go into the same profession. He has inspired me to study music more than I ever have and start working more towards school to really assure a spot in college. This in turn has helped me quite a lot the past few months, as I have academically been accepted to both schools I have applied for. I will be auditioning soon, for the music program, and trying to get scholarships for it because I personally think that would be awesome. I honestly can’t say I would have had as good of a marching season as well as concert season without Mr. Homan working here.
