My reasons by Aurora - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

My name is Aurora Schmid, a passionate and dedicated rising junior at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville, currently pursuing majors in Teacher Education and Education. This essay not only serves as an application for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship but also gives me the chance to express my zealous commitment to my field of study and my aspirations to contribute significantly to the world of education.

Ever since my early schooling years, I have held firm beliefs regarding the importance and transformational power of education. I have always believed that education is the linchpin of social change, and quality educators are the carriers of this change. Hence, embarking on this journey of learning how to educate has not only been a path of self-fulfilment but also a stride towards contributing to societal growth. However, I acknowledge that this path is as challenging as it is rewarding.

I currently maintain a GPA of 2.8 at UW Platteville. To some, this score might not portray an image of excellence. However, I view it differently. I believe that my GPA mirrors a journey of resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning. It's a testament to my willingness to face adversities head-on, learn from them, and turn them into opportunities for growth. Essentially, my academic journey aligns closely with real-life teaching scenarios where setbacks are merely stepping stones towards more profound learning moments.

Moreover, I see this scholarship as more than just financial assistance. For me, it represents a valuable validation of my dedication to both my professional path and personal growth. It is a testament to my commitment despite various bumps along the road and my steadfast efforts towards becoming an exceptional educator.

As I aspire to make a tangible difference in the lives of young policymakers of tomorrow, financial constraints often pose challenges to achieving my full potential. This $200 scholarship would directly influence the quality of my education by alleviating some financial stress, enabling me to focus intensely on improving my pedagogical skills and pedagogic content knowledge.

In conclusion, I would be sincerely grateful for the opportunity to be considered for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship. I am proud of the scholar and the future educator I am becoming, and I firmly believe in my potential to make a significant impact in the realm of education. I assure the committee that investing in my future through this scholarship would not merely impact an individual's life, but indeed, the lives of many young minds I aspire to shape and inspire through my future career as an educator.
