The Next Step by Autumn - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

College has always been the plan, however yours truly could never decide what to do with her life. I wanted to make sure I was absolutely positive on what I wanted to do. So I looked into the Navy, Army, USMC, and Services our country offers. My Maternal Grandparents were nearing their end of life and I did not want to leave and then have them pass on while I was gone. I held both of their hands while they took their last breaths of air within a year after I graduated high school. I did the babysitting gig for a while until just after I graduated. I jumped into the work field right after high-school, I got a job in the healthcare field working with the disabled, mentally challenged and elderly. I gained my CRMA ( certified residential medication administrator) and Went to school and got my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) interested in helping the sick and lost.

A year later I got a job as a CNA, I have been on the cardiopulmonary unit at a local hospital in my area for almost three years now. I also was promoted to CNA/Tech which allows me to do more than a regular CNA. I can do EKGs,Bladder Scans, Urinary Catheterization, MRSA Swabs, and use a CPM machine. The patient population we serve Is very sick I take pride in providing thorough holistic care for each of my patients. This year I lost my brother and it's taken a huge toll on my whole family emotionally as well as physically. I know he's watching us all and I'm just trying to be the best person I can be for him, myself, and his two beautiful girls that look up to me, I want to be able to provide them with amazing moments that they won't forget. I want a career that will give me more time to spend with my family, you can't really buy time unless you invest first.

Just recently I have applied and enrolled into college, I am so proud and excited to start my journey as a Registered Nurse. I always wanted to be so sure of myself , and now that I finally am and I know what I want to do, this is the biggest accomplishment I could have taken and I am so proud of myself for being absolutely sure. I'm looking forward to a bright future, with more time with my family
