Why I chose Business as my major by Benjamin - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

I chose to go in for General Business with a minor in Entrepreneurship. My goal one day is to start my own supply chain business, supplying materials to contractors, such as electricians, carpenters, and roofers. With the struggle of supply chains nowadays, the world is in need of more supply chain workers and innovators. I hope to help grow the supply chain and make it more efficient as time goes on.

Growing up, my family owned a small plumbing business in my hometown, therefore I got a good glimpse of every aspect of business. From the accounting, to the labor, to dealing with customers. I became very fascinated with business, and it gave me the incentive to either start my own or take over my family’s business one day.

When I was in high school, I took a trade school class on carpentry as well. Even though I didn’t go right into it, they still trained me as if I were going into it, so they taught me the majority of skills needed to get a carpentry job. I learned every component of a wall stud, roof rafters and shingles, and how to pour concrete. If I take over my families plumbing business, I would most definitely add that onto it.
