Building things I dream about by Brayden - April 2025 Scholarship Essay
When I get to college, I plan on majoring in computer science. For me, this isn’t just about getting a degree or landing a job — it’s about doing something I genuinely love. I’ve always had a passion for creating things, especially games and interactive experiences. Computer science gives me the tools to bring those ideas to life.
I’ve been interested in game design and development for a long time. There’s something incredible about being able to build a world from nothing — writing the code, designing the gameplay, crafting the story, and then watching people explore and enjoy it. It’s not just fun; it’s powerful. With computer science, I get to take ideas that live in my imagination and turn them into something real that others can play, experience, and connect with.
What really draws me to computer science is how flexible and creative it can be. A lot of people think it’s just numbers and logic, but to me, it’s like digital art. I get to solve problems, build systems, and create entire experiences from scratch. It’s a way for me to shape the world in my own unique way. Whether I’m coding a game mechanic, designing a menu interface, or crafting a puzzle that makes players think, every line of code is a brushstroke on a bigger canvas.
Another reason I chose this major is because it gives me the ability to grow. Technology is always changing, and with computer science, there’s always something new to learn or create. I like the idea of being in a field that never gets boring and constantly pushes me to improve.
In the end, I chose computer science because it feels like home. It lets me be both logical and imaginative, technical and creative. It gives me a path to build the things I dream about — and that’s exactly the kind of thing I want.
