The Development of Education by Cameron - May 2020 Scholarship Essay
There are often a plethora of people wondering about what the future of humanity will hold. You can look back to past decades and find descriptions of what they thought the future would look like. As intriguing as those predictions are, they are, in most cases, wrong. In short, I think there is no real way to know what the future will hold. Life has a way of being completely unpredictable. That being said, plausible conclusions can be constructed if we look at past patterns.
As far as education goes, its system hasn't changed very much. It hasn't strayed far from the method of teacher and student. For decades, students have gone to an institution and sat at desks to learn from an adult who supposedly knows what they're doing. It has been generally regarded as a good method thus far, so not much has differed. I believe that this framework will be similar in the future. I think there will still be teachers instructing students as they sit in small desks. However, I do think that the technology in schools will be more advanced.
Schools have been getting more and more technology integrated into them as the years have passed. I believe that this will continue as we move into the future. The school's 50 years from now are guaranteed to have more technology in use for their teaching methods. With an increase in technological advancements, will come an increase in the intricacies of classes. They will have access to more reliable and specific equipment. This means that the future students will have a greater chance of achieving precise results that aren't possible in our current time.
Most of the assignments would also be moved to online. It seems that many schools and classes have been migrating to online work, even before quarantine made it necessary. There has been an increase in the amount of online courses available. With this clear shift to online education, it makes sense that this would be the path education would take in the future.
Courses will also most likely become more rigorous and competitive. Kids will have a greater opportunity to get a higher education when they're younger. The adults of this age did not have all the access to taking college courses that we do now, so it stands to reason that courses will only grow in complexity. The future generation of kids will most likely exceed our intelligence as they will be able to take higher level classes at a younger age.
Overall, the general method of teaching won't change much, but the technology and content of the classes will be more advanced. Still, there's no way we could ever truly know what the future holds. Perhaps all my predictions will be wrong, and the future will hold something completely unexpected. Maybe the next generations will decide to defy the patterns of education we have employed for so long. The future holds so much, and the only way to know what will happen is to wait for it to arrive.
