Changes In The Veterinary World- Catherine Simila: June 2020 Scholarship by Catherine - June 2020 Scholarship Essay

Do you ever wonder what your future will look like? As we grow older the world is changing, and it is changing fast. Jobs are changing, schools are changing, the way we live is changing. Growing up, I have always had a love for animals. I watch so many vet shows on television, my family gets tired of watching them over and over again. There are many careers you can choose from to help living things. My choice is to help large animals, and I intend on bringing positive change into that career field.

My career goal is to be in charge of my own veterinary clinic, while being the veterinarian there. When I look around at animal hospitals nowadays, I do not see a lot of conservation efforts. This is something I want to bring into my intended career field. Having more conservation efforts, this can help save wildlife from extinction. It can give animals more breeding opportunities to help prevent endangered species. Another opportunity I want to bring upon this career would be a more humane way to sedate a large/exotic animal indeed for a checkup or care. I believe there should be a type of medicine to give the animal in their food when their caretaker is training with them, and maybe it can last longer for the vet to do what they intend to do. I feel as though darting them increases their fear and anxiety levels. If you continue to dart them, and their caretaker is standing there, they won’t have as much trust with their human caretaker.

I am sure as the time comes, there will be plenty of opportunities to add changes to the veterinary career world. As I study for my dream career, I intend to keep an open eye for positive changes I can add later on for the veterinary world. The world is changing fast, why not positively change the way animals need care?
