Knowing More Than Yesterday by Christopher - October 2022 Scholarship Essay

Objectively, growth is a crucial part of being alive. If we are not actively developing and improving, we are decaying. There is no exception to this rule. Education, in the dictionary sense, is the grindstone we hold our minds to to ensure that this growth is still occurring. Without education, the world would be an incredibly dull place. It helps us to develop our critical thinking skills, and it also allows us to gain a better understanding of the world around us. It helps us to strengthen ourselves and become better individuals, and it also allows us to give back to society with what we have taken from it.
Personally, my experience has been much the same. I find that if I am not actively stimulating my mind with new information and taking advantage of the brain’s neuroplasticity, a certain element of crystallization begins. This is why I have always tried to enroll myself in as many credit hours as are allowable at any institution that I have been accepted to in order to maximize the momentum of the learning process. If we remain vigilant and keep our brains active, one can continue to learn well into the later years in life. There is nothing more valiant and pure than the desire for more knowledge.
