My journey from struggle to success by Cierrah - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

I always thought academics were just something that just naturally came easily to me. For the longest time I thought I would just breeze through college, like I did in high school ,and then I enrolled in college algebra. Even though math has never been my strong suit, I always managed to get at least a C on every math test I took. But at the college level it was just so different, with every test and quiz that came my way I was severely struggling. I would go many nights without sleep trying to understand the lesson going on and the quick pace of the course really did not help me with trying to grasp the lesson at hand. Starting a new lesson every week when I had just barely started getting a grip on the last one was no easy task. It felt severely intense and impossible at times, but I was strong enough to push through. During my time in college so far, I have been able to find salvation in math tutoring, I was able to learn what works for me when it comes to understanding math. Now I know how to overcome these challenges and better myself when it comes to math.
