In the Air by Cindy - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
As I feel the radiation of threatening vibes coming off of my fellow peers, all vying for the extra credit in history class, I blank out on the spot. Much to the delight of the competing team, I ended up giving the second best answer instead of the first. This allowed for the other team in class to score with their free pass.
I berated myself in frustration. I knew the material, so why could I not regurgitate my understanding back? But this is not the way to learn. The phrase goes, history repeats itself- if I fail once I will fail again. But no matter what subject, absorbing material cannot be thrown back up but rather dissected into pieces to appreciate what is there. Regurgitation without doubt will bring me down sooner or later.
History has always been my favorite subject and the information came easily to me. Recently however, the course material has not appeared when I needed it. This has led me to believe that history class has taught me the most important lesson of them all: don’t expect expulsion of information but an authentic leaner. From applying this new revelation, it has helped me to reach greater heights as I now have better methods to learn and interact with my environment.
