The First Victory by Codee - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
Have you ever wanted something so bad you could almost taste it? Well this year my football team was on a two and a half season losing streak and all I wanted was to feel what victory felt like. On October 7, 2016 everything changed; our first victory in twenty five games has finally happened. We worked so hard in and out of season for this one well deserved victory. Other than working in the off season; we also got a new coach two years ago and put in a completely different offense. While we may not have been the biggest and strongest team, our team had heart and the desire to win.
My Coach was very dedicated to coaching us. We had weightlifting in the summer months for all athletes and a special 7 A.M. class specifically for football players. During this class we would run, weightlift, and even watch film and go through football plays. I believe this helped us get stronger and even more important, it helped us get close as a team. Our biggest priority was to get better for the upcoming season and also have fun.
While we were in the midst of our twenty five game losing streak we had a curve thrown our way. A new head coach was now in charge. Furthermore the new head coach was a assistant coach but moved up and our head coach moved down to assistant. On top of all that we started a brand new offense. That may have been a stressful year but working on everything for a whole season payed off when we finally got a win the fallowing season. Our hard work through the summer was well worth it.
The Season leading up to our win was very hopeful. We went into the season confident about a few games. We were so close on our fourth week. We took Wahpeton into overtime but, we lost by a two point conversion. That was one of thee toughest losses that I had to go through during my football career. We were so close yet, so far away. It was a taste of what we all have been craving for so long, a victory. We had a few more games that didn’t end in our favor, on the other hand it prepared us for the games to come. Finally the seventh week of football came and we finally did what we thought was impossible, we beat a team. This was my happiest and proudest moment in my high school career not only for me but my entire team.
Some people think the impossible can never be done but, that’s not true. I thought I would never get the feeling of winning on a varsity team. Even though we only won one game this past season and were one of the worst teams in the state, I was still proud to be apart od this team. We worked together, we cried together, and we finally got to win together. Hard work pays off, so whenever you think you can't do something just work at it because you will achieve your goal one day.
