Are you a morning person or a night owl? Why are you most productive at this time? by Demeka - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
I am definitely a night owl. It has been said that the early bird catches the worm. However, contrary to popular belief. I disagree. The early bird does not always catch the worm. In fact, night owls are probably getting a lot more done, and are probably a lot more successful, or on the path towards it. My best productive time is when the early risers are fast asleep in their beds. Without research, I am inclined to believe that night owling is genetic, and maybe even biological.
As a night owl, I find that I have more energy during the evening, than during the day. Sure, I can start my day of early, but by mid-day I am needing a 30 minute power nap. However, as the day draws close to an end, between that 4PM-5PM mark, I began to feel naturally re-energized, as if I were a child who were just told to get ready to go to their favorite restaurant, or amusement park. That is generally when my productivity peaks, where for others, it may be slowing down. Most call it "quitting time".
I also find that working into the late hours provides me more quiet time, an ability to focus, concentrate, and hear my thoughts, or envision my ideas more clearly. My creativity comes alive in the dark, or at night. I am a divorced, single parent of four children. All ranging in the ages of high school, junior high, middle school, and elementary. Therefore, you can probably imagine what my daily life routine consist of.
With a quiet house in the evening, and everyone else comfortably tucked away in their beds, it allows me to unwind for a brief moment before delving into my scholastic work for school, personal projects, housework, or my business plan. I feel more structured that way.
There also tends to be the battle against distractions. There always seems to be a need to reply, or interact with someone, or a group of individuals around me. I find myself wanting to get up, and move around a lot more during the day, than I do at night. I am less focused during the day, and physically calmer at night. I find that I am able to check more off of my to-do list, and accomplish more strides towards my personnel goals.
