To be or Not to be by demetrius - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

"What is a leader?" There is an obvious answer to this question; one who leads. "What are the necessary qualities of a leader?" Well for starters a leader must be motivational just as much as they are motivated. A leader should be honest and integral, self confidence and most importantly a leader needs to possess drive! In my opinion it would be near impossible to be successful in any aspect of life if one did not possess these qualities or skills.

While one doesn't necessarily have to be a leader to be successful in college the skills of a leader are crucial to educational success. Lets say Jake has no motivation to study for midterms. He doesn't even have a goal he's just along for the ride enjoying his experience so why would he mind spending an extra semester partying? Without studying Jake will more than likely fail and while it is true that every failure leaves behind a seed for success Jake doesn't care to take initiative and water that seed. On the other side of this spectrum we have Caesar. Caesar realizes that unless he passes this midterm he will have to spend another semester making up those units which will be a major setback in his plan to start his own business. He is determined to pass that midterm! Using the goal he has set for himself as motivation Caesar will study, pass and continue down the path to his degree. Which story sounds like that of a successful person to you?

Are leadership skills necessary for college success? Yes, leadership skills and qualities are pivotal to achieve true success in College.
