Should Everyone Go To College? by Desire - August 2013 Scholarship Essay
“Desire should anyone go to college?” ask my sociology teacher. “Yes” I shout out growing up with my single mother I have observed her fair share of changes. Years ago people could work without or with only high school diploma, and they would still earn money that helped them to cover many of their expenses. However today our society, and all around the world things have changed in most field, people are having a lot trouble finding jobs due to the fact that most of the jobs now require a college degree and that many people have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Thus this has been a big issue in our society because the less college graduation rate, the more the society is negatively affected. Mostly, people should understand that our society works based on education level which determines the role of social mobility in our society. This is matter because it distinguishes people’s social class and how this affects their whole life. Attending College/ University is significant to me because since I was young I felt helping women and children struggling with health problems and reproductive issue was my main focus. I picture my life and my family’s situation changing dramatically with the possession of a college degree. Attending college and taking initiative at a university will provide more opportunities to achieve my goals.
College degree will not only allow me to study medicine, become a doctor, and hold a job that I love, but also obtain additional comforts that many others do not have access to with only a high school diploma. A college degree is an extremely important aspect in making it through hard economic times that we are all facing. My greatest dream is to return to many countries to provide proper medical attention to those in need, working in the communities so desperately in need of basic health care.
