College Plans for a Teen Girl by Dixie - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

In the Fall of 2025, I plan to attend the University of St. Thomas to pursue a Bachelor's in the Science of Nursing. Helping people has always been extremely heavy on my heart, and my journey as a Christian has only further shown me that I need to be in a career field where I have access to improving people's lives daily. As a nurse, each shift will lead me to the opportunity to make a person that may be suffering smile, even just for a moment, and that could be the difference in someone's entire mindset about their situation and cause their health to begin an incline.
Through childhood, I witnessed many cases of domestic violence and the effects of age on my family members. I also watched my grandma and mom fight four different forms of cancer between them, so it's safe to say I have a background that nurtures a love for my desire to help those in need.
I'm extremely excited to attend nursing school, and I'm ready to face the challenges it may present, because the people I will have the chance to meet and treat may be facing challenges bigger than I could ever imagine. I hope to be a smidgen of light for them and give them a shot at an occasional smile.
