Global Classrooms, Local Change by Dolapo - May 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I had unlimited time and money, I would use what I’ve learned in school—particularly about civic engagement, global affairs, and communication—to build a worldwide network of free “Impact Academies” that empower students to solve real-world problems in their own communities.
My education has shown me how powerful knowledge can be when combined with purpose. At every school I’ve attended, I’ve seen how education inspires confidence—but I’ve also seen how poverty, discrimination, and lack of opportunity can hold people back, especially girls and marginalized youth.
These academies would offer inclusive, multilingual education tailored to local culture and community needs. They’d be linked globally through an online platform that allows students to collaborate across borders. Courses would focus on practical skills: environmental science, diplomacy, digital literacy, economics, and public health. Students would be encouraged to tackle local issues with the help of mentors, university partners, NGOs, and embassy networks.
The goal? Not just to teach, but to activate. Each student would graduate with both a strong academic foundation and hands-on experience making a difference—whether that’s improving clean water access, creating voter education campaigns, or launching youth-led tech initiatives.
Unlimited resources would allow for scholarships, paid internships, and innovation grants that ensure students don’t just dream big but have the tools to act. Through storytelling programs, students could share their impact with the world, inspiring others and building momentum for lasting change.
If education is the key to change, then I want to make sure every student, regardless of where they live or what they can afford, gets to unlock that door.
