Tips For a First Time College Student by domonique - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
The topic of my podcast would be basic tips for a first time college student. I am going to cover academic, financial, and social tips for those who choose to further their education.
ACADEMIC: If there is a class you are struggling with, I recommend seeking a tutor on campus, most colleges offer free tutoring. Ratemyprofessor.com is the make it or break it for a class. You can use the site to rate, comment and see the ratings of a professor. When picking your classes make sure you go with classes for your major, so you are not wasting time and money. Get an education plan! An education plan is a guide that is based on the requirements to complete and earn your degree or certificate.
FINANCIAL: If you never made a budget sheet now is the perfect time to make one, it will help you manage your income. Also take advantage of places who give student discounts! Sell your textbooks when you no longer need them it will help get some of the money back. Apply for as many scholarships as you can, due to a lack of applications some of the departments in schools have leftover money from scholarships. Lastly apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
SOCIAL: Go to all the orientations, not only is it beneficial you will see and meet new people. Make sure you network! Be self assured! Try new things and get out of your comfort zone. Get involved on campus. Join a club, sports team, fraternity, sorority or the student body. You will learn many new things, make many new friends, and be more connected with your college.
