My Impact by Dorian - November 2019 Scholarship Essay

As a senior in high school, I have experienced a great deal of impactful moments in my life, and believe I have impacted a number of people in my life as well. These impacts don’t show themselves right away, but you realize these moments shape who you are and the person you are growing into. Teachers, coaches, family, and friends all impact your life for better or worse. In my school I believe I have left a positive impact on my underclassmen teammates, and on left my mark on people throughout my school. One way I impacted part of the student body was in my farewell speech for football.

In sports I think I have set a higher standard for my teammates to hold one another to. Since I am a senior, I played my last game of football this year. In my previous years playing the seniors gave farewell speeches that left a lasting impression on me, so I gave my speech and did my best to make sure my teammates felt what I was saying. I wanted my teammates to be better than I ever was or will be. I told them not to take anything for granted, and to cherish every moment because nothing is guaranteed. I encouraged them to make lasting impressions by listening to their coaches and taking everything seriously. I finished with telling them I loved them all and wanted the best for all of them and for the team.

As a teammate, I gain the most sense of accomplishment when I realize that I have been able to impact the younger players on the team the way the previous seniors impacted me. I played with heart, dignity, and courage throughout my years in Northridge High School’s football program. I believe I positively impacted the lives of my teammates by passing along my values as a player and senior leader through my love and passion for the game.
