School Accomplishment: Publishing Articles on International Website by Genevieve - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

The school accomplishment I am most proud of is writing articles and having them published on an International tourism website. For as long as I can remember writing has been my passion. I love writing stories and poems about anything that comes to mind. When I was 15, my teacher knew how much I enjoyed writing and encouraged me to write as a class for school. I started writing articles for an Australian Tourism Business called WeekendNotes.

WeekendNotes is an international website that features articles on different things to do in various places in the world over the weekend. As soon as I started writing for them I knew I would love my experience. Nothing made me as happy as watching emails appear in my inbox titled "WeekendNotes review published."

During the years I have written for WeekendNotes I have learned a great deal of useful things that have helped me take direction in writing. I've experienced what it is like working with an accredited editor, I've found what topics are likely to get more readers, I've learned how to optimize my content for SEO, and through this experience I've been able to hone my writing voice.

Since I started writing for WeekendNotes I've been paid as an adult, and I've been able to experience what it's like being a little fish in a big pond. Slowly I've been making my way to the top of the pond. With over 30 published articles and 2,000 readers, I became the top writer for the Chicago branch of WeekendNotes when I was only a Sophomore, and I've won awards and International competitions against adult freelance writers. Competing against adults at my young age has empowered me to not expect any less of myself simply because of my youth. This experience has been a memorable one that has helped me in countless ways, and I look forward to seeing where my writing will take me in the future.
