We Are Infinite by Hanna - April 2014 Scholarship Essay

When I first read Stephen Chbosky's Perks of Being a Wallflower, I immediately found the charm, and naivety in the main character, Charlie. Though his reasons for staying a loner are more extreme than my own, I still found myself identifying with the feeling of being alone, and not having anyone to talk to. Then, when Charlie meets Sam and Patrick, he finds in them two free spirits who teach im the joys of life and to just let go and be free for a while.

I met my best friend, Jasmine, in a time where I had many friends, but she proved to be the biggest influence on me. She had this "just do it" attitude about everything that inspired me daily to be more than who I was. There is a scene in Perks of Being a Wallflower where Sam, Patrick, and Charlie are driving down the highway, and when they come to a tunnel, Sam stands up in the truck and talks of feeling infinite. The mantra that comes from this scene, "We are Infinte" has become somwhate of a motto for my life. It reminds me that what I do with my life will leave an impact no matter how big or small, and that I need to take life by the reigns and strive to be as infinite as possible.
