Imagine you’re leading a tour of your high school to members of the incoming freshmen class. What's one piece of advice you would give these students? by Holland - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

Life as a high school student will be full of diversity and challenges. As an incoming freshmen the advice that I would give them would be to enjoy your years as a high school student and don't do anything that you would later regret. Be sure to hangout with your friends and talk to anyone and everyone. Most people in high school are waiting to be acknowledged, say hello and you may very well find yourself a new friend. Make the most out of high school because you only have four years and then you will be thrown into the real world.
When hanging out with your friends be sure to stay off your phone and have real genuine talk. Show them that you care about them by showing genuine interest and have a fun time doing whatever you are doing. However, stay away from anything that can dampen your thoughts, get you arrested and prevent you from going to school the next day. All of that is a waste of money and you simply do not need it to have a fun time. There are many other ways to have a fun time such as going out to go bowling, roller skating, paintballing or even go to your friends house and play some board games or card games. May sound cheesy but it can get really competitive.
Along with this, make sure to say hi to whoever you see in the hallway. Most high school students are dying to be talked to. It makes them feel appreciated and shows that someone may actually want to talk to him/her. However, not everyone will take you in a friendly manner. Some people will try to ruin your day by ridiculing you, but do not let them crumble your day. The reason why they say such hateful words is because they can't find anything good about themselves. Tell them to have a nice day and find someone who will appreciate your company. You never know, you may very well find yourself a new friend.
In conclusion, as a senior telling a incoming freshmen of what advice I would give them is to be social. By talking to that one person you may have very well found yourslef a everlasting friendship. Even better, they may even remember that conversation you had with them and how nice you acted toward him/her when everyone else acted hateful. In all, be kind, hangout with your friends and have a fun time and you will have a ectastic four years of high school.
