My Ultimate Accomplishment by Hunter - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

I could write an essay about my 4.067 GPA or completing a year of college through dual enrollment. But when it comes to my personal accomplishments at school, it leads my mind to an event I put on through student council. Student council has played a large roll in my academic experience by showing me the benefits we receive from volunteering. Putting on events that bring my school together as one is something I have tried to achieve all throughout my educational experience. I can say my dream came during my junior year of high school.
It was the day before Christmas break and my favorite time of year, the giving season. A fellow member of student council and I decided we need to raise money for our organization, but also for a part of our community. We decided to put on a school wide dodge ball tournament, but what we did not know was how amazing the outcome was going to be.
We managed to raise just over $600 for our student council and a local church in town. The two of us decided we should keep $200 to benefit our organization, and we gave $400 to the church that burned down in our town. I am from a small, homey community and giving back is a value instilled in us from birth.
I believe this is my greatest academic accomplishment because we carried on the tradition this year raising $500 and canned goods to give to a local food bank. To me, I can say that I left my footprint on my school, but most importantly I can see that I taught others the feeling you receive through volunteering and giving back. Overall leaving my legacy on my high school is the greatest accomplishment I could have accomplished during my education.
