My journey through the world of Information Technology has been filled with many learning experiences, but one particular challenge stands out as a defining moment in my academic career. As a first-year graduate student at Drexel University, I have been fortunate to delve deeper into the complexities of IT, a field I am truly passionate about. However, the path has not always been smooth. One of the most challenging academic experiences I faced was during my first semester, when I encountered a particularly difficult course on advanced algorithms.

The course was notorious for its complexity and the high level of understanding it required. As someone who has always been fascinated by the intricacies of technology, I was eager to dive in. However, I quickly realized that my previous experiences had not fully prepared me for the depth and breadth of the material. The lectures were fast-paced, and the assignments were more demanding than anything I had encountered before. For the first time, I found myself struggling to keep up with the content, and my confidence began to waver.

The turning point came after I received a disappointing grade on the first major assignment. It was a wake-up call that I needed to change my approach if I wanted to succeed. I realized that I could not rely solely on my previous knowledge or the lectures to get through the course. I needed to develop a more proactive strategy to tackle the challenges I was facing.

The first step I took was to reach out for help. I approached my professor and explained my difficulties. To my relief, he was understanding and offered guidance on how to approach the material more effectively. As a Black man in a predominantly white field, I am aware of the additional challenges I may face, but this experience has strengthened my resolve to succeed and contribute to the field of Information Technology.
