The Hardest School Year by Israel - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

One of the most challenging academic experiences that I had was in my Sophomore year when I signed up for 0 period totaling up to 7 classes during the school day. I had also signed up for Cross Country to experience something new. When I first started the school year I could keep up with the workload and keep a good pace. However, I slowly began to let homework pile up which led to my grades dropping. Having to run daily for two hours only to have to go home and do homework late into the day and wake up earlier to make it to school on time was draining my energy and stressing me out. All my grades were dropping quickly and I had to do something before it got worse. I realized that I was disorganized and that my schedule was not working at all. Procrastination was also affecting me so I needed a way to stay on task. So I ended up creating reminders on my phone to create a schedule that would allow me to not only complete my homework but that would also allow me to have at least a little bit of time to have fun by playing games or spending time with friends. After creating this schedule I found an improvement in my grades and was able to regain most of my energy again. By the end of the school year, I was back on track to graduating, and time felt as if it flew by quickly, possibly creating one of the most memorable school years of my life.
