My Significant Mentor by Jacob - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

Many different mentors and teachers have had significant impacts on my education journey. It is hard to narrow it down to one, but the most impactful teacher and mentor that I have had has been my Bio, Bio 2, and Biomed teacher Tyler Stevens. I first had Mr. Stevens freshman year in Bio 1. When I first met him I liked him and his teaching style. At first I never really talked to him much or was very close with him. As the year went on I ended up talking with him more and realizing that he was one of my favorite teachers of all time. The next year, when I was a sophomore, I had him again for Bio 2. This year was even better because I was closer with him and he made it even more fun. Then, sadly I wasn't able to have my junior year, but this year, as a senior, I have him again for Biomed, another of my favorite classes.
After enjoying all of the past classes Mr. Stevens has taught, I have realized what made them so unique and fun. Mr. Stevens is not like an ordinary teacher who just uses the textbook and lectures, instead, he uses slides, videos, games, and labs to give us a more real and visual understanding of the subject. He made learning fun for us and through all of the fun I still learned the subject and was able to comprehend everything. Even though he was close and nice to all of us, he still made sure that we learned everything and that we weren’t messing around. Overall, I want to thank Mr. Stevens for making my high school education meaningful, and enjoyable, and for being a great teacher and one of the best mentors I have ever had.
