Make a change by Jacy - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

My name is Jacy Lampe, and I am a rising junior in high school. I am excited about the future and the opportunities it holds, especially when it comes to making a difference in how plants are grown in Texas. After high school, I plan to study plant and soil science. I believe that by learning more about how plants and soil interact, I can contribute to sustainable farming practices that will benefit not only Texas but also the world.

Growing up in Texas, I have always been surrounded by agriculture. I have seen firsthand how important it is to find new and better ways to grow our food. With climate change and other environmental challenges, I believe it is crucial to innovate in the field of agriculture. I want to be part of the change that helps develop new methods for growing plants that are more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Being dyslexic, I have learned the value of hard work and perseverance. I am used to working twice as hard as others to achieve my goals. This experience has taught me resilience and determination, qualities I believe are essential for anyone who wants to make a real difference in the world. I know that studying plant and soil science will be challenging, but I am ready to put in the effort required to succeed.

I am passionate about communication, science, and biology, which I hope to integrate into my studies and future career. By understanding the science behind plant growth and effectively communicating these ideas, I aim to inspire others and lead initiatives that promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Receiving the Varsity Tutors Scholarship would be a tremendous help in pursuing my educational goals. It would allow me to focus more on my studies and less on the financial burden of college. I am eager to learn as much as I can and use that knowledge to make a positive impact on agriculture in Texas and beyond.
