Emotions by Jaden - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

Life is full of challenges, and it isn’t always easy to understand everything that life throws your way. I had a hard time understanding that. A few years ago my grandmother passed away. I had a difficult time processing this. I became angry and sad, but I mainly started acting out. I had become friends with this girl in the 8th grade and she was older than me, but I knew from that moment I shouldn’t be here. I was acting out at school, and not taking school seriously as I used to. She had got me involved with vaping. Vaping was something I never wanted to do. As time went on, I got more and more addicted to vaping.
My friend had got in trouble with the principal for vaping, and she had decided to drag me down with her. Leading to 2-week suspension from school. I decided to take back control of my life. Once I wasn’t suspended anymore, I quit vaping and left public school. Leaving public school led me back to focusing more on my school and getting me back to where I wanted to be in life. I have always wanted to graduate a year early and go to college, but I had lost sight of that. I had gone back to being her friend time and time again. I don’t know why I kept putting myself back in that position. Going back only ever made things worse for me.
Since then, I have got back on track and I am graduating a year early and trying to go to college. Not only did this whole teach me something but it also took a toll on my mental health. When I started letting my emotions take over, I also let them ruin my mental health, but I will forever be grateful that I got to learn this lesson.
