My Journey with Mathematics by Jaidyn - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

Math has always been my favorite subject in school. While I’m not quite sure what career path I will ultimately take, I do know that I want math to be at the center of it. With a math major, I can explore careers in areas such as data analytics, marketing research, financial analysis, and more. What I particularly enjoy about math is that it can be used to find the solution to different problems. I’m looking forward to learning more about math and how I can apply it in different ways to different fields.
When I was younger, there was a time when I would get frustrated if I couldn’t find the solution to something, especially in math. The question would stick in my mind, and I wouldn’t be able to move on until I figured it out. As I got older, I began to understand that the solution to a math problem was only one part - that the process of how I got to that solution was just as important. Learning about that process, and the strategies I can use has made math even more satisfying.
Similar to math, solving problems in life can be found using similar techniques. There is always something to learn each time and lessons which will help interpret problems and use math to solve them. Majoring in math at in college will help me succeed in the future. I am excited to challenge myself as a math major in college!
