The Art of Communication by Jake - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

I am interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies. I am particularly interested in exploring student Radio as well as Entrepreneurial Communication and Reporting in America classes when I enter college. My interest in Communication Studies stems from my love of public speaking and involvement in ASB at Mater Dei High School.

I have found that by communicating, a leader can be inclusive and celebrate the differences of their peers creating the best results for a team. By respecting different viewpoints in a collaborative environment, an inclusive leader create a broader perspective, and help people reach their potential.

In ASB, I have held the positions of Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Class President as well as ASB President in my senior year. Through my involvement with ASB, I have had the opportunity to work with film production, radio interviews, group presentations and more. These experiences have helped to develop my communication skills. I have always been interested in working with people and learning about the different divisions of a Communication major. The opportunities that a Communications Major offers such as broadcasting or journalism interest me. I would love to explore a college Radio program, where students gain real world experience and technical training in the field of radio.

This scholarship would be beneficial to me as my parents are both holding down two jobs each so that they can provide a well rounded education for my brother and I at Mater Dei High School.
