I Am Almost There: My Greatest Achievement by Janessa - March 2014 Scholarship Essay

"Janessa, you are needed in the office." The announcement said as I packed my backpack. When I arrived at the office at my high school, I noticed many of my scholarly peers, along with what seemed to be college students. Once everyone was seated, the college students began to speak, "Hello! We are Arizona Western College students and we want to invite you to join us in the AWC Honors Program." That is the most memorable academic memory I have to this day.

After thinking about joining the honors program, I decided that I would give it a try in order to expand my mind. After filling out the paperwork, earning two letters of recommendations, and writing two descriptive essays, I was a part of the Arizona Western College Honors Society. Taking honors courses was empowering, in my opinion, because I expanded my knowledge with many topics. I enjoyed being able to have college classes and be learning academic material, along with life lessons. Something I loved from taking these advanced courses is that I was able to meet so many neat people with different levels of intelligence.

I am now towards the end of my college career and am getting ready to transfer to Northern Arizona University. The AWC honors program inspired me to be more passionate about learning and also not to be scare of taking that extra mile. Since I was in the program, I would be assigned more work than the usual courses but strangely, I enjoyed researching more and obtaining more facts. Being in the honors program helped me become more independent and secure about my move to a university. I am proud to say that I am extremely close to achieving my greatest academic achievement yet, which will be graduating with honors.
