The Burden of Homework by Jaxon - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
As a highschooler taking AP and CE classes for most of their schedule, homework piles up really fast. At its worst, it was work from right as school ended until it was time for sleep. Focusing was getting difficult. There needs to be a balance between life and school, but the work was consuming everything. Fact is, sometimes you need time for yourself, and I found that out through this tough trial. Two of my 8 classes are meant for that. I was able to use Ceramics and Game Development to help myself calm myself and center myself, because for me, making things helps me center myself. By taking just a bit of time for myself, I was able to start focusing again on working harder and faster, and my workload suddenly became smaller. People often say things like "Perception makes a huge difference" but those words always felt empty to me, yet it turned out to be true. Life is the best teacher, as they say. Taking care of myself helped me to overcome this challenge, and I learned a lot more than just how to do school work from it. Challenges are tough and they aren't usually fun to endure, but they can teach a lot of lessons.
