My Life 10 Years From Now by Jayla - June 2023 Scholarship Essay
In 10 years, I see myself as a recent college graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I also see myself as a 26 year old, aspiring interior designer. Interior design has been a passion of mine for quite some time now, and I believe it will continue to be for a long time. I will have majored in Interior Architecture and minored in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. One of my main career goals is to be a lead interior designer in an established interior design business.
To take my goal a step further, I would also like to put my Business Administration minor and knowledge to use and try to level up so far that I either take over an interior design business or start my own. The main inspiration for my goal is the business that I currently work for, which is Calyco Interior Designs. This business is one that I am proud to say I am part of. Its main goal is to provide good quality home decor products and serve its community, while directly advocating for special needs employees. The owner of Calyco Interior Designs, Robin Jarvi, is a huge advocate for creating a safe environment for people with special needs to work and feel welcome. 10 years from now, I hope to be where she is. Even if I don’t end up having enough resources to start the business of my dreams, I know I will still be involved in interior design and serving my community.
My education will help me achieve all of this by giving me the chance to grow. It will provide me with the knowledge, resources, and experiences that I need to reach my goals. In order to give myself a good chance at being the best one I can be, I'm going to try my best to get a bachelor's degree. Earning a bachelor’s degree will be a way to show future employers my knowledge about the principles and foundations of interior design and its processes. It is also likely to provide me with a portfolio with a large variety of projects that prove my experience.
Most importantly, in 10 years, I see myself being a better, more enlightened person. I believe that as we age, we should try to learn from our mistakes and actions. I don’t just want my college experience to result in a Bachelor’s degree or diploma. I want to leave college as a better person than when I entered it. I want my education to result in me learning more about myself as a person.
In conclusion, in 10 years, I see myself as an enlightened college graduate that is aspiring to be an interior designer. In terms of my education playing a part in all of this, it would provide me with knowledge, resources, and experience that will help me along the way. Education allows you to grow and take steps to being the person you want to be. I believe doing well in school is one of the best ways to secure a good foundation and future, so I believe a college education will open doors for me to my future.
